Lungo Drom Freehold
From the files of the Nord Est... The Hold of the Long Road...
Located in the southeast extremity of Romania's Constanta County is Mangalia, a heavenly resort town on the Black Sea. Much culture is to be discovered here, i.e. the Scythian tomb discovered in 1959, where archaeologists unearthed fragments of a papyrus in Greek, the first document of this kind in Romania; the incineration tombs (the necropolis of the Callatis citadel (6th century BC); the Turkish mosque (16th century)and the Archaeology Museum, which shelters a rich collection of amphorae and sculptures from the Hellenistic epoch and fragments of stone sarcophagi.

Nestled high on a wooded cliff is Lungo Drom Freehold, a lovely old Byzantine relic in the city known as "Most Beautiful". Over-looking a waterway to the Black Sea, it's view is breath-taking, though it's hearth may be small. Years of neglect have done nothing to deminish the Old World charm of this 'hold.

Enter, and partake of the Old World hospitality, and a touch of gypsy magic...
